Through CED 2019, Six Countries Devoted to Indonesia

Participants of Community Engagement for Development (CED) 2019 arrived at the rectorate building of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya.

ITS Campus, ITS News – to teach the young generation in Asia about the responsibility of human beings in the social community, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in collaboration with the Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya (WMCUS) and Universitas Wijaya Kusuma ( UWK) holds a Community Engagement for Development (CED) program. The Program titled ‘ Enlivening the Spirit of Sharing ‘ was officially opened by the three rectors in ITS rectorate building on Thursday (17/7) which aims as a means of devotion for Indonesia.

Grace Elfa, the Committee of CED 2019 explained, the purpose of CED itself is as a place to educate millennials to engage in activities that promote the development of their social responsibility. “To contribute to the improvement of community life and environmental sustainability,” she said.

CED 2019 brought in a total of forty participants, of which fifteen participants from Indonesia and twenty-five were students from neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Taiwan.

The participants of the Community Engagement for Development (CED) 2019 from six asian countries were greeted by traditional Javanese dance in the lobby of rectorate building of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS).

“Participants of the CED program of the sixth country will spend three days in Surabaya and seven days in Puhsarang village, Kediri which is the main target of community service,” said Grace.

She continued, before contracting the projects they did, participants would undergo some preliminary activities for supplies such as language and cultural introductions, waste management training, and other things needed for project execution.

Grace explains that in addition to being an opportunity for younger generations of different countries and background studies to learn how to do community service, participants will also be taught how to formulate and conduct Social-Entrepreneurship, as well as the exchange of knowledge of new cultures.

After obtaining various supplies, participants will be plunged straight into the field divided into eight groups with different themes of problem-solving. The eighth theme was renovation library, computer renovation (IT), toilet renovation, solid waste management in the backyard school, solid waste management and digital marketing training for small business, Roselle interest utilization, and mapping Clean water and a healthy toilet.

In the field, participants are expected to identify problems, formulate the most appropriate solutions, and present their problem-solving plans. If it has been approved by a mentor lecturer, then the program they submit will be realized together.

Through the official site CED 2019, according to the dean of Faculty of Bussiness WMCUS, Dr. Lodovicus Lasdi MM Ak CA CPAI, through live community devotion, then young generations can learn optimally where it will be desired as an experience valuable in his life. “As the wise man said, ‘ I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. ‘ Which means ‘ I heard and I forgot. ‘ I see and I remember. I did and I understood, ” he said.(mia/owi/rev)

The opening of the Community Engagement for Development (CED) was 2019 officially by the three rectors at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS).
