ITS Campus, ITS News – The massive development of technology must also be accompanied by certainty of data security. In response to this, the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) was present simultaneously throughout Indonesia, one of which was carried out at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) through socialization on the formation of the CSIRT team at the ITS Rectorate for two days, starting Monday (17/7).

Director of Technology Development and Information Systems (DPTSI) Rizky Januar Akbar SKom MEng explained the CSIRT which was formed at ITS consists of 10 tertiary institutions in Surabaya. This inter-university network in Surabaya was formed so that they can help each other regarding cyber security. “By implementing a contact mechanism, universities can report security incidents to each other and be linked with further response teams,” he explained.

The rise of cyber incidents that are currently happening has encouraged the formation of this CSIRT to prevent and minimize the impact that has arisen. Moreover, all institutions now involve digitization for various data recording and storage processes. So, when there are hacking incidents, system damage, data leaks, and pirated software can be handled immediately by the team.

The socialization participants consisted of representatives from 10 tertiary institutions in Surabaya during the CSIRT socialization material at ITS

The socialization of the formation of the CSIRT, which was initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdibukristek) by inviting speakers from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) was held to explain the process of forming a response team. Then, if there is an incident that violates technology data security, it will be detected by the central BSSN. “Having a CSIRT team on each campus can handle the response quickly to coordinate with the BSSN in resolving the incident,” said this ITS Informatics Engineering Department lecturer.

According to Rizky, the forerunner to the success of the birth of this CSIRT can be started with the readiness of Human and Organizational Resources (SDMO) in the institution. If the SDMO has been formed, verification related to security and technology will be easy to do. Then, it is important to monitor the management system from management if an incident occurs. Incidents that often occur within the scope of educational institutions are usually data hacking and easy data sharing. “However, this can be circumvented by checking the network and data regularly,” added Rizky.

Furthermore, it is necessary to ensure the availability of technology. In this case, ITS itself makes efforts by installing firewall devices and implementing Single Sign On (SSO). In addition, ITS will also implement a multifactor system to increase data security. “If everything has been formed, socialization regarding the importance of technology security for various stakeholders at ITS can be carried out,” said the bespectacled man.

Rizky hopes that CSIRT can also create technology whose safety is guaranteed. Not only that, but awareness also needs to be increased for all stakeholders and not just the information technology (IT) team. “The involvement of all academics in the security of online data is important to build so that it is not only borne by the IT team,” emphasized the master’s graduate from Ritsumeikan University, Japan.
