ITS Campus, ITS News – Technology is one of the determining factors for the effectiveness of national defense, so it is essential to improve and develop innovations to strengthen national security. Related to this, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), together with BTI Defence, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was held in the Leadership Meeting Room (Rapim) of the ITS Rectorate Building Monday (18/7).
BTI Defence is a company engaged in weapons, control systems, and navigation whose primary focus is in the field of national maritime defense. The signing of the MoU itself is intended to develop technology that can strengthen Indonesia’s military security.
Co-founder and Director of BTI Defence Peter Tjahjono said that Indonesia needed a technological transformation in this field to improve national defense and minimize the risk of accidents due to equipment malfunctions. “It takes creativity and innovation of young people who understand this field,” said Peter in his speech.
Meanwhile, BTI Defence Senior Advisor and Corporate Consultant John Koukouvas continued, the defense technology needed today is equipment that can adapt to all conditions, moves quickly and flexibly, and has an ergonomic design. “We see a good opportunity for cooperation with ITS to develop defense technology like this,” said John in his presentation.
On the same occasion, ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng IPU AEng said that the innovation that BTI Defense wanted to develop, especially in the maritime field, had a scientific focus that was very close to the development of science at ITS. The familiar man called Ashari said that ITS already has innovations in this field, such as environmentally friendly bullets, uncrewed submarines, autonomous ship drones, and many more. “ITS is always open to collaborating with outside parties to develop technology for the nation’s benefit,” he said.
Finally, the Senior Manager of ITS Cooperation Management, Dr. Farida Rachmawati ST MT, said that ITS is ready to collaborate with BTI Defence in terms of knowledge and resources to develop Indonesian military technology, especially in the maritime field. “We will prepare students to contribute to this innovation development project, as well as expand internship opportunities for students to support the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program,” he concluded.
