ITS Campus, ITS News –In collaboration with National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya (UKWMS), and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) inaugurated the Center for Circular Economy-based Research and Green Innovation through an online webinar, Tuesday (26/10).
The research center office of the Science and Technology Innovation Center for Circular Economy and Green Innovative Resources (STIC-CEGIR) has been officially opened and operates at ITS and UKWMS. This research center primarily focuses on the recycling and reuse of target compounds of industrial waste in significant quantities and of mutual interest. “This collaboration is a form of contribution in developing the utilization of industrial waste,” said Jhy-Chern Liu, Vice President of NTUST.
In addition, by involving two countries (Indonesia and Taiwan), it is hoped that the output of this cooperation can link the research and development that has been carried out in Indonesia and Taiwan with various industries in the two countries. “I believe this collaboration can usher in a new era in research and innovation,” said Jia-Yush Yen, President of NTUST, optimistically.
The research center was developed to connect various researchers from various universities involved with experts from the industry who work together. This is intended to produce multiple types of research on eco-green solutions, circular economy, and sustainability.
The Director of STIC ITS IDAA Warmadewanthi ST MT Ph.D. revealed that the use of waste is a form of implementation of an eco-green solution, namely, where Indonesia can develop a model to restore existing waste conditions for various purposes and different outputs. “In the future, it is hoped that Indonesia will be able to spread a good impact on the environment and society,” he added.
ITS Rector Prof. Dr. Ir Mochamad Ashari MEng revealed this collaboration was carried out to find new potential in solving one of the complex problems, namely the generation and accumulation of industrial waste. ITS, as one of the leading technology campuses, contributes through research and innovation in waste recovery and reuse. “I am sure that in the next three years, this collaboration can produce concrete solutions as a form of contribution to the nation,” he said optimistically.
