Jember, ITS News — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again proven its mettle in the national eco-friendly automotive industry. This time, the ITS Nogogeni Team successfully defended its two first-place titles in the 2026 Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE), held at the University of Jember, which ended Sunday (October 4).
In the competition, organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) through the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), the ITS automotive team fielded two of its flagship cars. The Nogogeni XI EVO, also known as Nela, topped the Urban Electric class with an efficiency of 275.57 kilometers per kilowatt-hour. The Nogogeni IX, also known as Bela, topped the Urban Ethanol class with a record of 594.44 kilometers per liter.

ITS Nogogeni Team General Manager Hafiz Diandra Pratama revealed that the 10.5 percent increase from last year was the result of research since November 2025. Reducing Nela’s weight to 72 kilograms was achieved through microcontroller innovation with precise BLDC motor control. “On the other hand, updates to the drivetrain and engine construction successfully reduced Bela’s weight to 86 kilograms,” explained Hafiz.
The ITS representative team’s struggle on the circuit was not easy, given the sudden regulation changes and heavy rain. Driver Nela Jeremi Mantovanio Sibarani admitted he had to be very disciplined in maintaining his strategy on the track. “One small mistake, like braking too hard, can immediately affect the result,” said the 2024 student.

This brilliant achievement was closely monitored by the ITS Nogogeni Team’s supervisor, Dedy Zulhidayat Noor, ST, MT, PhD. This energy efficiency innovation aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets, points 7, 13, and 17. “Hopefully, we will continue to consistently provide sustainable transportation solutions in the future,” Hafiz said.
