ITS Campus, ITS News — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is targeting all tenants on campus to have obtained halal certification by October 18, 2026. This step is part of ITS’s commitment to ensuring that food and beverage business activities on campus meet halal standards.

The Head of the ITS Halal Study Center, Prof. Setiyo Gunawan, ST, PhD, IPM, stated that this commitment is in response to the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH)’s policy regarding mandatory halal certification for campus canteens. He emphasized that all tenants must ensure the certification process is completed according to the established target. “All tenants at ITS must be halal certified starting October 18, 2026. This is crucial for the comfort of visitors,” he affirmed.

This commitment also received attention from the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas), through a team that visited the ITS Central Canteen on Wednesday (September 9). The visit by the team, consisting of representatives from the Directorate of Sharia Economics, State-Owned Enterprises, and the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), was part of the development of Policy Recommendations based on the Impact Analysis of Halal Certification for Strengthening the Competitiveness of MSMEs.

Team coordinator M. Fahlevy assessed that ITS’s Halal, Safe, and Healthy (KHAS) culinary concept canteen continues to show progress. “We see the ITS KHAS Canteen as a canteen that continues to develop and become a model zone for other university canteens in Indonesia,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ITS Directorate of Cooperation and Business Management (DKPU) is supporting the acceleration of halal certification for tenants in the ITS Canteen. This policy is expected to ensure that products sold on campus are halal-certified and strengthen the trust of campus residents as consumers.

Support also came from Yanti, one of the tenants at the ITS Central Canteen. She revealed that since opening her business around 2022, her stall had been directed to immediately apply for halal certification and has now successfully obtained it. This year, the requirements have been tightened further, requiring all tenants to be halal certified by October. “I’m very happy, this will increase visitor confidence,” she said gratefully.

ITS’s commitment to ensuring all its canteen tenants are halal-certified is one of the campus’ efforts to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically point 3 on Healthy and Prosperous Living and point 11 on Responsible Consumption and Production.
