ITS Campus, ITS News — The Nogogeni energy-efficient vehicle research team from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) launched its newest cars, the Nogogeni XI EVO and Nogogeni IX, on Wednesday (September 3). The two energy-efficient cars are ready to compete and defend their championship titles in the 2026 Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE) to be held at the University of Jember, with a focus on optimizing the propulsion system and reducing vehicle weight.
The combination of these efficient components is believed to minimize energy consumption and improve overall vehicle performance. The team’s commitment to developing this energy-efficient vehicle is a tangible manifestation of the innovative spirit of the Campus Pahlawan students.
ITS Director of Student Affairs (Dirmawa), Nur Syahroni, ST, MT, PhD, emphasized ITS’s role in supporting the development of its students’ potential. This includes not only an adequate academic environment but also material and moral support. “This way, students can be motivated to continue competing and maintain their excellent achievements year after year,” explained the ITS Department of Ocean Engineering lecturer .

The figure, familiarly known as Roni, stated that each winner will receive career support in the form of recommendations to various partner companies. This is a token of appreciation from ITS, ensuring that the competitive experience positively impacts students’ future career development.
Meanwhile, ITS Nogogeni Team Advisor Dedy Zulhidayat Noor ST MT PhD expressed his appreciation for the support and facilities provided by various parties, including access to the Gelora Bung Tomo circuit for test drives. The open access to test the two latest-generation Nogogeni cars has helped the team during the development process. “This allows students to measure vehicle performance, modify gear ratios, and evaluate technical aspects before competing,” said the lecturer from the ITS Department of Industrial Mechanical Engineering .

Cross-sector collaboration provides a solid foundation for students to continue creating, innovating, and making real contributions to the wider community. ITS Nogogeni Team General Manager Hafiz Diandra Pratama expressed his team’s optimism about winning first place again in this year’s KMHE event, scheduled for late September or early October. “So, we are ready to win again, after successfully conducting a series of trials with significant improvements in efficiency compared to last year,” Hafiz confidently stated.
Both the Nogogeni XI EVO and Nogogeni IX cars that will compete offer striking advantages over their predecessors, including engine construction, drive systems , and the minimization of friction in certain areas. “This engine design can reduce car losses and increase efficiency,” Hafiz explained.

The student from the ITS Department of Industrial Mechanical Engineering explained that his team divided the development focus of the two cars. The Nogogeni XI EVO, an urban electric car, focused on optimizing the drivetrain and frame weight. Meanwhile, the Nogogeni IX, an urban ethanol car, focused on optimizing the drivetrain and engine efficiency.
He also stated that the team is conducting thorough preparation and ongoing evaluation to meet the challenges of this annual competition. Hafiz revealed that these two new cars are also projected to compete in future international events, including the Shell Eco-marathon (SEM).

This energy-efficient vehicle innovation by the ITS Nogogeni Team fully supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy and point 13 on Climate Change Management.
Furthermore, the long journey and success achieved by the ITS Nogogeni Team were achieved through strong cross-sector partnerships, including support from the Surabaya City Government. This aligns with SDGs point 17, “Partnerships to Achieve the Goals.” (ITS Public Relations)
