ITS Campus, ITS News — Student Activity Units (UKM) at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) provide a platform for students to develop their potential beyond academic pursuits. Specifically in the sports field, ITS has 14 UKMs with various branches, allowing students to pursue areas of interest.
In team sports, there are five student activity units (UKM) covering basketball, flag football , volleyball, soccer, and softball . These five are ITS Basketball, ITS Flag Football, ITS Volleyball, ITS Soccer, and ITS Softball. Through training and competitions, students gain experience playing in a team, honing their teamwork skills.
Meanwhile, individual sports options are available through eight student activity units (UKM): ITS Badminton Club, Tennis Court, Billiards, Bridge, Chess, Archery, Golf, and Table Tennis. Unlike team sports, these sports provide students with the opportunity to focus more on developing their individual skills, thereby supporting their professional development in their chosen fields.
Beyond conventional sports, Kampus Pahlawan also facilitates student interest in esports through the Heroes Day E-Sports Student Activity Unit (UKM). This student activity complements the sports activities at ITS and provides opportunities for students to develop their esports skills. With this wide selection of options, students can choose a sport that aligns with their interests and competencies.

Sanovto Arti, a student member of the Tennis Student Activity Unit (UKM) for Lawn Tennis, stated that students don’t need to own personal sports equipment to join. The student activity unit has provided a number of facilities for them to utilize. “We have rackets, balls, and a court available for members to use during their regular practice sessions,” he explained.
The consistency of training is also adjusted to members’ academic schedules through a training scheduling system. According to Sanov, this system allows members to continue training without neglecting their academic obligations. “We adjust training to their academic schedules so that both can continue to run smoothly,” said the Jakarta-based student.
Furthermore, he continued, students interested in competing will receive regular coaching. In recent years, the ITS Tennis Student Activity Unit (UKM) has successfully led its members to several podium finishes in regional and national competitions. Sanov believes this achievement demonstrates that the UKM can be the right platform for guiding students towards success.

Beyond just developing his athletic skills, Sanov admitted that his experience in the student association (UKM) also honed his interpersonal skills. Various activities with other members provided him with the opportunity to expand his network and learn communication and teamwork. “I’ve learned a lot; every encounter with new people brings me new experiences,” he concluded.
Sanov’s experience in the sports student unit demonstrates ITS’s support in providing opportunities for students to develop beyond academic activities. This aligns with ITS’s commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points 3 and 4, namely a healthy and prosperous life and quality education. (*)
