ITS Campus, ITS News — Student life at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) extends beyond the classroom. Various Student Activity Units (UKM) exist to foster student interests and talents. One such unit is the Arts Student Activity Unit, which offers a variety of creative endeavors, from music and vocals to visual arts.

It began with the ITS Music Student Activity Unit (UKM Musik ITS), which served as a forum for students to channel and develop their passion for music within the Heroes Campus environment. Since the 1980s, UKM Musik ITS has consistently facilitated the musical potential and creativity of its members. The various programs and activities presented also serve as a means for collaborative growth for its members.

Aga Nafta Filadelfiano, a student in the ITS Informatics Engineering Department , shared this experience with the ITS Music Student Activity Unit (UKM Musik ITS). He gained a variety of memorable experiences during his year with the club. “In UKM Musik ITS, I not only hone my musical skills through practice, but I also truly feel the camaraderie among the members,” Aga said.

Equally successful on the music stage are the ITS Student Choir (PSM) and the Vandals Sepuluh Nopember Marching Corps (VSNMC) marching band. The ITS PSM consistently enlivens major ITS events and consistently achieves success in various competitions. Meanwhile, the VSNMC also enlivens various campus events with its captivating performances, frequently winning national competitions.

Turning to the Dance and Karawitan Activity Unit (UKTK) and the Rebana Student Activity Unit (UKM Rebana), these two units serve as spaces for ITS students to preserve culture and religion. Through routine practices and performances, UKTK frequently wins various national dance festivals, combining traditional and modern dance. Meanwhile, the Rebana Student Activity Unit actively participates in major events such as ITS Bersholawat and other Islamic spiritual events.

For students interested in the performing arts, Teater Tiyang Alit offers an expressive platform through regular productions and script reviews. This student unit (UKM) explores the world of theater comprehensively, from acting and makeup to production management. The quality of these mature performances frequently earns its representatives awards at student theater festivals.

Shifting to visual arts, the Photography Student Activity Unit (UKAFO) actively creates stunning photographs. UKAFO consistently organizes group photo hunts, workshops, and photo exhibitions. UKAFO upholds the philosophy that the camera is merely a tool, while the most important thing is the sensitivity to capture the moment. This consistency in UKAFO members’ visual work has often resulted in success in various national photography competitions.

The existence of this Arts Student Activity Unit (UKM) is one of ITS’s efforts to develop students’ potential beyond academics, particularly in the arts. These various UKMs can support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 4 on Quality Education. ITS students not only develop academically but also hone their creativity and collaborative skills in the arts. (*)
