Taipei, ITS News – The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) continues to expand its international network through a strategic visit to two leading universities in Taiwan, National Taiwan University (NTU) and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech/NTUST), on Monday (August 10). This meeting serves as a crucial opportunity to open and expand collaboration opportunities between the two universities in education, research, international mobility, and global networking.
The ITS delegation, led directly by ITS Rector Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng PhD, was received by Taiwan Tech’s Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Ying-Jung Yeh and other leaders at Taiwan Tech’s International Building. In his remarks, Bambang conveyed that Taiwan Tech has a close academic character with ITS, especially as a strong university in the fields of science, engineering, and technology.
According to Bambang, these similarities are crucial for developing collaborations that are not only institutional in nature but also directly connect faculties, study programs, researchers, and students from both universities. “We see many opportunities for joint development, from education and student mobility to research and innovation,” he said.
ITS and Taiwan Tech have already established dual degree collaborations in several master’s programs. Through this strategic meeting, both parties committed to expanding this dual degree collaboration to undergraduate programs through various schemes.
On the second agenda at NTU, the ITS delegation was received directly by NTU leaders, including Executive Vice President Prof. Chih-Hsin Yang, Associate Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Jiun-Haw Lee, and Associate Dean of the College of Engineering Prof. Louis Ge. In the meeting, which took place in the Administration Building of NTU Main Campus, a number of collaboration opportunities such as student and lecturer mobility, joint research, student exchanges, and the development of international education programs were the main topics of discussion.
According to Bambang, NTU is a strategic partner with a key role in developing ITS’s global network, particularly in Asia. Collaboration with NTU’s College of Engineering is also considered to have significant potential, given the strong scientific overlap with various departments and faculties at ITS. On this occasion, ITS and NTU committed to establishing a dual degree program collaboration in several study programs, particularly in civil engineering and environmental engineering.
ITS Institute Secretary Prof. Dr. Ir. Umi Laili Yuhana, S.Kom., M.Sc., who was also a member of the ITS delegation, added that strengthening international cooperation needs to be directed towards producing tangible and measurable activities. According to her, meetings between university leaders are an important entry point, but the next step is ensuring direct connectivity between the two institutions. “Once institutional relationships are established, what we need to encourage is for more lecturers, researchers, students, and alumni to connect with each other,” she said.
Through this strategic visit, ITS affirmed its commitment to building an international network that is not only extensive, but also productive and sustainable. The partnership with Taiwan Tech and NTU is expected to serve as a bridge for ITS in expanding collaboration in education, research, innovation, and global talent development in the Asian region. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly point 4 on Quality Education and point 17 on Partnerships to Achieve the Goals. (*)
