Surabaya, ITS News — The Actuarial Student Association (HIMASAKTA) of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) once again demonstrated its concern for the community through the 2026 Community Service I (ABDIMAS I) program. With the theme Painting Dreams, Empowering Futures, this activity was held at the Roudhotul Jannah Social Foundation, Surabaya, on Sunday (19/4). A total of 30 children participated in a series of activities that combined education, creativity, and social awareness in a warm and pleasant atmosphere. The theme was chosen as an effort to help children recognize their potential, dare to have dreams, and build self-confidence in achieving the future they dream of.
As an initial series of activities, HIMASAKTA first held an Open Donation program involving ITS Actuarial Science students, alumni, and the general public. This program aimed to gather support for the implementation of ABDIMAS while also meeting the needs of children in orphanages. The collected donations were then distributed in the form of painting equipment, compensation money, nutritious food, and snacks. This assistance was expected to provide benefits and increase the children’s enthusiasm in participating in all series of activities.
The Chief Executive of ABDIMAS I HIMASAKTA 2026, Mikani Massayu Pusponegoro, explained that the theme Painting Dreams, Empowering Futures was chosen because it aligns with the activity’s goal, which is to provide space for children to recognize their dreams from an early age. According to her, every child has the same opportunity to develop if they receive support, motivation, and an environment that encourages them to continue learning. The ITS Actuarial Department student hopes that this activity will not only be a fun experience, but also be able to foster children’s self-confidence and enthusiasm to continue learning and dare to pursue their dreams. “We want children to feel that every dream they have is worth fighting for,” said Mikani.
The main activity began with a presentation on dreams and future jobs, presented interactively through light discussions and simple games to keep the children engaged. In this session, volunteers introduced various professions, the importance of having a life goal, and simple steps to achieve their dreams. Afterward, the children were invited to decorate cloth bags with paint, allowing them to freely create and interact with the committee in a warm atmosphere. The series concluded with a tree of hope, where they wrote their dreams on paper and attached them to a banner depicting a tree, symbolizing that
every dream can grow with effort and a passion for learning.
Through ABDIMAS I HIMASAKTA 2026, HIMASAKTA ITS once again presents a community service program that focuses not only on providing assistance, but also on empowering children through education and creative activities. By combining the spirit of sharing, learning, and character development, this activity is expected to provide a memorable experience while also motivating children to continue developing their potential and achieving their dreams in the future.
