ITS Campus, ITS News — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) once again hosted talented Indonesian youth through the Prodistik Competition in Information Technology (Procommit) V15. Successfully attracting 476 participants, the event, held by the Applied Program in Information and Communication Technology (Prodistik), officially concluded with the awarding of awards to the winners on Saturday (29/11).

The Head of ITS’s Prodistik, Dr. Dra. Ismaini Zain, MSi, explained that ITS’s Prodistik strives to spread knowledge beyond major cities. The program aims to prepare high school (SMA/MA) graduates with technological skills for the workplace. The program, which partners with high schools in East Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), provides high school (SMA/MA) students with information and communication technology (ICT) training for five semesters.

To date, 29 high schools have partnered with Prodistik. Ismaini explained that the program, initiated in 2007, has never been widely promoted to high schools. However, several partners have requested collaboration in the ICT sector, which has subsequently expanded beyond East Java. “The number of partners depends on the principal’s policy at the time,” explained the ITS Statistics Department lecturer.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of Procommit V15, Drs. M. Zainul Asrori, MSi, stated that the activity, which carries the theme Battle of AI-phoria, has seven competition categories and one appreciation. For the Excel Programming and Infographic Design categories, participants from 25 schools participated. A total of 24 schools enlivened the Low Code, User Generated Content (UGC), and Futuristic Idea Writing of AI Powered IT Preneur (Piftik) categories. Finally, in the Smart Robot Project category, there were 16 schools and 22 schools in Animation.

Specifically regarding the appreciation section, Asrori explained that the final assignment, based on the training provided during high school, will be presented as a showcase of students’ work. This final assignment is required for students to receive a certificate and also serves as a means of demonstrating their previously acquired knowledge. “The certificates students receive can then be included when applying to ITS or other universities,” said the ITS Physics Department lecturer.

Procommit V15 is a stage for the struggle of students’ hard work while pursuing ITS Prodistik so far. With pride, SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Gresik won 1st place in the UGC Video and Low Code categories. Meanwhile, MAN 1 Kota Madiun managed to take home 1st place in the Infographic Design and Piftik categories. For the Excel Programming, Smart Robot Project, and Animation categories, 1st place was taken home by MAN Lumajang, SMAN 4 Kediri, and MA Islamiyah Senori Tuban, respectively.

In closing, Asrori stated that this event is expected to further improve the quality of high school students who have partnered with ITS. Partners who engage ITS are guaranteed to receive Training of Trainers (ToT) for their teaching staff.

This activity also helps realize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4, namely Quality Education, and point 17, concerning Partnerships to Achieve the Goals. “Hopefully, this will increase high school students’ interest in digital skills,” he concluded. (ITS Public Relations)
