ITS Campus, ITS News — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) once again commemorated the services and struggles of the founding figures of this Hero Campus as part of a series of commemorations of its 65th Anniversary through an activity titled Napak Tilas ITS at Grha Sepuluh Nopember ITS, Tuesday (28/10). This time, the memory and exemplary journey of the 2nd ITS Rector, Navy Colonel (Ret.) Ir Marseno Wirjosapoetra were woven into a biographical book and documentary film that were launched at the event.

ITS Rector Prof. Dr. (HC) Ir. Bambang Pramujati, ST, MSc, Eng, PhD, described Marseno as a visionary, disciplined, and exceptionally dedicated figure. By emulating his leadership, ITS is expected to improve and benefit the community. “His struggles are a solid foundation for ITS’s growth as a leading technology university in Indonesia,” he emphasized.

The ITS Mechanical Engineering Department Professor explained that Marseno’s biography and documentary film are a tribute to his efforts and contributions. These works serve as historical records, role models, and inspiration for future generations of ITS students. “By remembering history, it is hoped that the spirit of leadership and dedication among the ITS community will grow even stronger,” he said enthusiastically.

Digging deeper, ITS invited Marseno’s extended family and the Indonesian Navy History Service (Disjarahal) to share the story of Marseno’s life. Known for his courage, Marseno played a key role not only in the development of ITS but also in the history of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and his family.

Secretary of the History Department, Navy Colonel Drs. Heri Sutrisno, MSi, recounted Marseno’s life as a member of the Indonesian Navy. Heri explained that Marseno was the first engineering graduate to join the Indonesian Navy. “He played a crucial role in the history of the development of the Indonesian Navy at that time,” he explained.

Heri also highlighted Marseno’s contribution to the construction of Juanda International Airport during his time. At the time, Marseno was entrusted with the responsibility of Head of Supervision for the Construction of the Waru Air Base, Sidoarjo. As a civil engineer, Marseno was remarkably capable of completing the construction process successfully in a relatively short time.

Meanwhile, Dra Nini Irewati, Marseno’s second daughter, said that her father was a disciplined and firm figure in carrying out his duties as head of the family. The woman, known as Ire, added that Marseno was a role model by never bringing work into the family environment.

Through this Napak Tilas (Remembrance Day) activity, ITS not only commemorates the past but also strengthens its present foundations for the future. This spirit serves as a driving force to achieve the founders’ dream of making ITS the Noble Mother Campus a world-class technology university.

Now, after more than six decades of existence, ITS continues to grow into a leading university in Indonesia, consistently upholding the values ​​of nationalism.
