The joy of the ITS Nogogeni team at the 2025 KMHE awards night after successfully bringing home two champions to the Heroes Campus
ITS Campus, ITS News — The Nogogeni Team from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again achieved impressive results by winning first place in the Urban Electricity and Urban Ethanol categories at the 2025 Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE) on Sunday (October 26th). This achievement underscores ITS’s excellence in environmentally friendly technological innovation at this prestigious national event.
ITS Nogogeni Team General Manager Saputra Ardyan Syah explained that his team brought two flagship cars: the Nogogeni X Evo for the Urban Electric category and the Nogogeni VIII for the Urban Ethanol category. “We have participated in this competition held by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) every year,” Saputra said.
In the competition held at the University of Jember, the ITS Nogogeni team optimized the systems of the two competing cars. These innovations included key vehicle systems, such as the transmission system, steering system for easier handling, and power supply system for more efficient performance.

In the Nogogeni VIII car, commonly known as Bela, the team updated the drive system by using a 108 cc engine which is more efficient than the previous generation which still uses a 125 cc Mio engine. Meanwhile, the Nogogeni X Evo car, nicknamed Nela, is equipped with an 800 watt BLDC motor replacing the 1,000 watt motor used in the previous generation. “This optimization makes the drive system more efficient without sacrificing performance,” explained Saputra.
Besides the drivetrain, he added, innovations also exist in the vehicle’s frame. Unlike the previous generation, which used 6016 hollow aluminum , both cars now use a 6061 aluminum ladder frame . This frame makes the car’s frame stronger and more stable when cornering, allowing it to withstand twisting during competition.

Furthermore, the ITS Nogogeni team also managed to reduce the vehicle’s body mass by 15 percent, making it lighter and more efficient. The Nogogeni VIII weighs 90 kilograms, while the electric-powered Nogogeni X Evo only weighs 78 kilograms. “This mass efficiency makes the car more responsive and can maximize performance during races,” explained the ITS Industrial Mechanical Engineering student .
The 2025 KMHE competition process itself consists of three stages. It begins with the selection of a vehicle design report containing the car’s manufacturing plan. Then, there’s the submission of a virtual technical inspection video . The final stage involves a maximum of five vehicle test runs on the track. The best result is determined based on the highest fuel efficiency.
Concluding his explanation, the 2022 student expressed his hope that the ITS Nogogeni team would continue to develop and innovate. This string of achievements also demonstrates ITS’s commitment to realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), point 4 on Quality Education and point 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy. “Hopefully, going forward, ITS Nogogeni can continue to be the best and maintain its first-place position in the next KMHE event,” he concluded optimistically.
