ITS Campus, ITS News — To further solidify strategic cooperation among global higher education institutions, a delegation from the Singapore Embassy visited the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) campus on Thursday (7/31). The visit, which took place at the ITS Rectorate Building, marked the continuation of ITS’s collaboration in the Republic Indonesia – Singapore University Network (RI-SING UN) program.

In his welcoming remarks, ITS Rector Prof Ir Bambang Pramujati ST MSc Eng PhD revealed that ITS has undertaken various efforts to accelerate research and technology. These efforts are pursued through a commitment to strategic collaboration with leading universities in both Indonesia and Singapore. “Among them are Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University, and others,” he added.

Bambang further explained that this commitment is realized through the development of renewable energy, circular economy, and research laboratories. ITS, together with NTU, which is part of the Institute of Research for Sustainability and Innovation (INSPIRASI), is developing various centers of excellence. “One of them is through the development of Indonesia’s first Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator of Indonesia (REIDI) project,” he elaborated.

In line with Bambang, Singapore’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Kwok Fook Seng, stated that Singapore strongly supports efforts to develop sustainable technology. According to him, Indonesia’s abundant population presents a significant opportunity to drive clean energy innovation. “These efforts not only benefit partner countries but also help accelerate Indonesia’s Golden 2045 vision,” he said.

On the same occasion, Director of the Global Alliance of Industries, Prof Lidya Helena Wong, as one of the Singaporean delegates, expressed appreciation for ITS’s initiatives in promoting clean energy development for the future. Through the development of the REIDI center of excellence, ITS not only provides land but also demonstrates readiness in technology. “These efforts also prove the commitment of both countries to achieving sustainable development goals by providing clean and affordable energy,” she emphasized.

Furthermore, the project, which was inaugurated in late December 2023, was developed using Southeast Asia’s first and largest Agrivoltaic Technology. Lidya added that this technology utilizes solar panels to produce electricity and agricultural products. “This technology can enhance land use efficiency,” she explained.

To support clean energy, INSPIRASI Project Manager Prof Gamantyo Hendrantoro MEng PhD also revealed that REIDI utilizes biomass energy as a supporting energy source. This biomass energy has been used to meet electricity needs in the surrounding area, including student dormitories. “In the future, this system will also be expanded to the ITS stadium,” said the Professor from ITS’s Department of Electrical Engineering.

Through this ongoing collaboration, Gamantyo hopes that ITS can continue to strengthen its strategic role as a center for clean energy and sustainability innovation in Southeast Asia. “Not only as an academic institution but also as a pioneer of technological transformation that directly impacts society,” he concluded with hope.

These technological development efforts align with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 on Clean and Affordable Energy, Goal 13 on Climate Action, and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. The implementation of these SDGs also serves as a guideline for developing this Heroes’ Campus as a smart eco-campus, integrating research, education, and innovation to support sustainable energy.
