ITS Campus, ITS News – Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) continues to take strategic steps in supporting national energy security through innovation and strategic collaboration. This time, ITS officially launched the ITS Oil and Gas Corner, an oil and gas education center based on metaverse technology, which was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia, Bahlil Lahadalia, on Thursday (July 17).
The ITS Migas Corner, located in the lobby of the ITS Library, is the result of a collaboration between ITS and the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas). It is designed to serve as a space for learning and innovation for ITS students, the academic community in East Java, and the general public. More than just an exhibition space, this facility is designed as a bridge between the academic world and the oil and gas industry, aiming to foster an understanding of national energy dynamics.
In his remarks, Bahlil commended ITS’s strategic initiative in bridging academic knowledge with the needs of the national oil and gas industry. “The establishment of the ITS Migas Corner is a concrete step toward strengthening local human resources capacity to manage national energy resources independently and competitively,” he emphasized.

Bahlil also emphasized the importance of higher education institutions as drivers of innovation, particularly in addressing the energy transition. He also welcomed ITS’s role in strengthening the education ecosystem for energy and mineral resources within higher education institutions. “With technological approaches like the metaverse, oil and gas education can be made more engaging, inclusive, and adaptive,” he added.
With an interactive digital concept, Migas Corner ITS offers a bunch of comprehensive educational features. These include the history of the oil and gas industry in Indonesia, upstream and downstream industry management, cost recovery and gross split schemes, oil and gas work area data, exploration processes through to abandonment, ITS research findings related to oil and gas, ITS alumni data in the oil and gas sector, immersive video content, and interesting information about the upstream oil and gas industry.

ITS Rector Prof. Ir. Bambang Pramujati, ST, MScEng, PhD, stated that the launch of this facility is part of ITS’s efforts to address energy sector challenges through innovative approaches. “The ITS Migas Corner is a concrete example of our commitment to enhancing human resource quality and fostering innovation in the oil and gas sector. We hope this facility will bring widespread benefits, both within and outside ITS,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of SKK Migas Djoko Siswanto explained that the Migas Corner is a tangible manifestation of the upstream oil and gas industry’s support for strengthening science and technology (S&T) in higher education institutions. “This is a form of link and match between the education sector and the upstream oil and gas industry to ensure that graduates’ competencies align with national industry needs,” he emphasized.

Going forward, the ITS Migas Corner is expected to not only serve as a catalyst for the development of outstanding and innovative energy human resources but also as a hub for sustainable collaboration between academia, industry, and government in strengthening national energy resilience comprehensively.
IThis initiative also serves as a tangible contribution from ITS in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, it aligns with Goal 4 on quality education, Goal 7 on affordable and clean energy, Goal 9 on industry and innovation, and Goal 17 on partnerships to achieve the objectives.
