ITS Campus, ITS News – The high dedication to embed the culture of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) has again led the lecturer of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (DTSI) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Dr. Adithya Sudiarno ST IPU IDipNEBOSH, to notch an achievement on the international stage. This time, he received a prestigious award at the World Safety Organization Indonesia Safety Culture Award (WISCA) 2025.

The annual prestigious event organized by the World Safety Organization Chapter Indonesia in Jakarta on Friday (5/2) was a form of appreciation for companies, institutions, or practitioners who actively contribute in raising the national OSH standards. The award assessment was based on the tangible impact of the candidates’ innovations in promoting workplace safety awareness, whether in industrial, educational, or general community settings.

As the recipient of the World Safety Organization Concerned Professional Award 2025, the lecturer—usually known as Adith—was judged to be an active and consistent figure in pushing for the integration of OSH values in Indonesia’s education and industry sectors. He is known as a speaker at various seminars and training sessions in the field of OSH, while also contributing to the development of Indonesia’s first OSH hard‑engineering‑based curriculum.

Furthermore, Adith also initiated the Process Safety Engineering Study Program (PSE) at ITS, which focuses on an engineering approach to process safety. Unlike conventional OSH programs that are health‑based, ITS PSE emphasizes engineering‑ and technology‑based risk analysis. “The curriculum is designed by integrating various core competencies such as mechanical, chemical, engineering physics, industrial and systems engineering, as well as metallurgy to support the design of a comprehensive safety system,” explained the lecturer who was also appointed as the Head of the ITS PSE Study Program.

Not only the educational field, this ergonomics expert also participated in drafting the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) for Ergonomics together with the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemnaker RI). In addition, Adith’s success is demonstrated by his collaborative innovation of the Safety Model Canvas instrument to measure OSH culture in several ITS industry partners. “As a result, there has been a 30 percent increase in OSH awareness over the last three years,” he revealed.

In his efforts, Adith’s greatest challenge is building OSH awareness in educational environments that are considered low‑risk. His plan to emphasize that safety is not only an industrial matter but also a habit that must be formed early on is the solution to this challenge. “This effort is in line with the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia’s target in the National Productivity Improvement Movement through strengthening human resources with an OSH culture,” he asserted.

Not only directly impacting educational and industrial environments, Adith’s contribution to strengthen the K3 culture also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth, as well as Goal 3 related to good health and well‑being. His efforts in building OSH awareness from educational settings to industry is a concrete embodiment of creating a safe, productive, and sustainable working environment.

Currently, Adith is developing a digital twin‑ and augmented reality (AR)‑based OSH training system for emergency scenario simulations. His collaboration with Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia also continues in drafting the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for OSH and professional certification programs. “Support from ITS and our professional networks makes it easy to unite different perspectives, from law and medicine to engineering,” he elaborated.

This award is a pride for ITS, especially DTSI and the PSE Study Program, which consistently produce globally competitive OSH experts. This award is not an end goal, but rather a spark of enthusiasm to continue giving a positive impact to the academic community, industry, and the public. “Hopefully this achievement will inspire the academic community to keep producing works that build a safer and more productive Indonesia,” Adith concluded with hope.
