ITS MKPI Strengthens Surabaya Earthquake Preparedness with UK Government Funding

Disaster preparedness strengthening activities carried out at YPAB SMPLB-A Surabaya

MKPI ITS — In collaboration with Mott MacDonald through support funding from the British Government (UK FCDO), MKPI researchers conducted a study on earthquake risk reduction starting from the mitigation phase to recovery. To build Surabaya resilience, of course with good cooperation with the Surabaya City Government, SMP/SMA LB-A YPAB, and other parties, several activities are carried out in this program.

The cooperation program includes:

  • Study of earthquake risk profile in Surabaya
  • Preparation of strategies and mitigation actions for the Surabaya earthquake
  • Preparation of strategies and actions for the Surabaya earthquake response
  • Preparation of strategies and actions to recover the Surabaya earthquake
  • The concept of building retrofit ideas and building codes
  • Strengthening the capacity for earthquake preparedness through training and drills at the YPAB Gebang Putih School
  • Construction of evacuation routes at LB-A Junior High School/SMA YPAB Gebang Putih
  • Making Evari Map as a learning medium for LB-A YPAB Junior High School / Senior High School residents in studying evacuation routes in their school environment
