Department of Electrical Engineering, the place where the things developed

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) launched a new study program, namely Telecommunication Engineering which is provided for the undergraduate program (S1), below the Department of Electrical Engineering (DTE). The launch of this new study program is to meet the needs of Human Resources (HR) who are eligible to compete during the very rapid development of telecommunications. According to a survey conducted by the Department of Electrical Engineering, in 2021-2022, around 93% of companies and agencies related to telecommunications that contribute to the survey require telecommunications engineers.

Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, ITS Dedet Candra Riawan S.T. M.Eng. Ph.D. revealed that the Telecommunication Engineering Study Program was originally one of the areas of specialization in Electrical Engineering ITS, Faculty of Electrical Technology and Intelligent Information Technology (FTEIC). However, the limited Semester Credit Units (SKS) and the discussion that is not too specific are the reasons for the formation of a new study program which has 144 Semester Credit Units (SKS) which can be taken in 8 semesters or 4 years.

The Telecommunication Engineering Study Program was established on March 1, 2022. The Head of the ITS Telecommunication Engineering Study Program Proposal Drafting Team, Prof. Ir. Gamantyo Hendrantoro M.Eng. Ph.D. stated that this study program provides three areas of interest, namely telecommunications systems, telecommunications networks, and information transmission medium. The Telecommunication Engineering Study Program will be equipped with three laboratories that can support learning, namely the Telecommunication Network Laboratory, the Multimedia Communication Laboratory, and the Antenna and Propagation Laboratory.

“Classroom facilities, supporting laboratories, and all teaching staff are fully prepared,” said the Head of the Electromagnetic Wave Propagation & Radiation Laboratory, Department of Electrical Engineering ITS.

New student registration will start on 1 – 26 June 2022 through a partnership and independent pathway by providing 40 seats. Furthermore, prospective new students will carry out the Academic Ability Test (TKA) on 2 -3 July 2022 and the announcement of the results on 7 July 2022 or can be accessed on the https://www.its.ac.id/admission/sarjana/skm/  website.

“Hopefully in the future, this study program will be able to give birth to innovations that contribute to the distribution of communication services in Indonesia,” said Gamantyo.
