Head of Madrasah Education Division of East Java Province, Dr. Sugiyo, M.Pd., delivers his remarks and officially opens the National Workshop “Creative Teachers! in the Digital Era.”

ITS Campus, ITS News — The development of artificial intelligence (AI) opens up new opportunities for creating more creative and interactive learning. Seeing this opportunity, the Department of Information Technology (DTI) Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in collaboration with Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Informatika MTs-MA Provinsi Jawa Timur held the National Workshop “Guru Kreatif! di Era Digital: dari Ide hingga Media Ajar Interaktif” on September 22–25, 2026, online via Zoom.

MGMP is a professional forum for subject teachers at certain educational levels to share knowledge, experience, and develop competencies in supporting the improvement of learning quality. Through its collaboration with MGMP Informatika MTs-MA Provinsi Jawa Timur, DTI ITS also contributes to strengthening teachers’ competencies in utilizing developments in digital technology for educational needs.

This national workshop was designed for 32 lesson hours (JP) and was intended for teachers from various educational levels. The series of activities not only included material presentations, but also practice, assignments, mentoring, presentations, and evaluation of participants’ work.

The activity began with an opening and remarks by Head of the Madrasah Education Division of East Java Province, Dr. Sugiyo, M.Pd., who also officially opened the workshop series.

Entering the first session, participants received material on “Ekoteologi dalam Pembelajaran dan Pemanfaatan Teknologi Digital secara Bijak” delivered by Dr. Najib Kusnanto, M.Si. The material served as an introduction for participants to understand the importance of using technology wisely in supporting the educational process.

Speaker Dr. Ir. Henning Titi Ciptaningtyas, S.Kom., M.Kom., together with the moderator and participants during the National Workshop “Guru Kreatif! di Era Digital” held online via Zoom.

Next, DTI ITS lecturer Dr. Ir. Henning Titi Ciptaningtyas, S.Kom., M.Kom. invited participants to explore the development of AI through the material “Mengajar Lebih Kreatif: Mengenal Tren AI untuk Media Pembelajaran”. This session provided insights into the development of AI and its potential to support teachers’ creativity in preparing learning materials and activities.

Going beyond the introduction of concepts, the workshop also encouraged participants to transform ideas into visual products. Anas Machfudy Al Junaedi, S.T., M.T., M.Sc. delivered the material “Dari Prompt Menjadi Visual: Sulap Ide Menjadi Visual Pembelajaran dengan Nano Banana”. Through this session, participants were introduced to the use of AI-based technology to help produce visuals that can be used as part of learning media.

According to Anas, the use of AI in learning is not solely intended to generate materials instantly. AI can serve as a tool to help teachers develop their creativity and transform ideas into learning media that are more engaging and relevant to students’ needs. The use of this technology should remain positioned as a supporting tool that complements the role and creativity of teachers in the learning process.

On the second day, participants once again received more practical materials. Taufiq Choirul Amri, S.Tr.T., M.Kom. delivered the material “Dari Sumber Belajar Menjadi Video: Kreasi Video Pembelajaran dengan NotebookLM”. Meanwhile, Gagatsatya Adiatmaja, S.T., M.Kom. introduced the use of H5P through the material “Dari Menonton Menjadi Berinteraksi: Ciptakan Video Pembelajaran Interaktif dengan H5P”.

The workshop series then focused on the practice of creating learning media. On the third day, participants took part in a material review session and an independent workshop to produce learning media according to their respective subjects. Participants also received guidance from facilitators before presenting and evaluating their completed assignments.

On the final day, Friday (25/9), participants continued working on their assignments independently with guidance from speakers and facilitators until the submission stage.

The collaboration between DTI ITS and MGMP Informatika MTs-MA Provinsi Jawa Timur in this workshop demonstrates the importance of synergy between higher education institutions and educator communities in responding to technological developments. AI was not only introduced as a new technology, but was directed toward helping teachers develop creative, visual, and interactive learning media according to students’ needs.

Supporting the Achievement of the SDGs

Through this activity, teachers are expected to become increasingly prepared to adapt to technological developments while being able to appropriately integrate AI into the learning process. This activity also supports SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening teachers’ competencies in utilizing technology and AI to support the learning process.
