DTI ITS Brings an International Perspective, Encouraging Students to Design a Meaningful University Journey

Surabaya, ITS News — The Department of Information Technology (DTI) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) provided students with international insights and perspectives through a Guest Lecture entitled “Designing a Meaningful University Journey: Essential Skills, Mindset, and Habits for Success, Growth, and Purpose.” The event, held on Friday (28/8) at the 2nd Floor Auditorium, Tower 2 Building, ITS, featured Maria Regina M. Pablo, Director of Admission and Registration Services at Tarlac Agricultural University, Philippines.

The Guest Lecture was part of a series of activities to mark the beginning of the new semester at DTI ITS. Through the theme, students were encouraged to view their university journey as a process of personal development that goes beyond academic achievement and encompasses the development of skills, mindset, habits, and life purpose.

In her presentation, Maria Regina M. Pablo emphasized the importance of developing the right skills and mindset from the beginning of higher education. University years provide students with opportunities to explore their potential, gain valuable experiences, and prepare themselves to face challenges after completing their studies.

A meaningful academic journey does not happen instantly. Students need to develop positive habits and the ability to set priorities, manage their time, and take responsibility for their learning process. These habits can serve as a foundation for students to achieve both academic and professional goals.

In addition to skills, students were also encouraged to develop a growth mindset, which is a way of thinking that recognizes that abilities can continuously be developed through learning, experience, and reflection. With this mindset, various challenges encountered during university can be viewed as opportunities for growth and self-improvement.

The international perspective brought by Maria Regina M. Pablo also provided DTI ITS students with new insights into higher education experiences in a global environment. The participation of an academic and education professional from the Philippines opened opportunities for students to understand the importance of adaptability, cross-cultural communication, and readiness to navigate an increasingly globalized workplace.

Beyond simply pursuing academic success, students were also encouraged to discover the purpose behind their educational journey. By having a clear sense of purpose, students are expected to make choices regarding activities, experiences, and competency development that align with their future aspirations.

The Guest Lecture is expected to equip DTI ITS students with a broader perspective as they begin the new semester. Students are not only expected to excel academically but also to grow into adaptive individuals with relevant skills who are capable of making positive contributions to society.

Through the “Designing a Meaningful University Journey” Guest Lecture, DTI ITS reaffirmed that higher education is a journey that needs to be consciously designed. Every experience, challenge, and learning opportunity can become an important part of shaping students’ journeys toward success, growth, and a more meaningful purpose.

The activity contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
