Surabaya, ITS News — Ahead of the start of the new semester, the Department of Information Technology (DTI) at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is focusing on students’ psychological readiness through the DASS-42 Mental Health Assessment and Psychological Well-Being Orientation. The event, which took place on Friday (August 28) in the 2nd-floor auditorium of Tower 2 at ITS, is part of DTI ITS’s efforts to support students in leading healthy and balanced academic lives.
The event featured Fatimatuzzakiyah, S.Psi., M.Psi., as the speaker. Through this session, students were encouraged to understand the importance of maintaining mental health as an integral part of their success during their higher education.
One of the main activities during the event was a mental health assessment using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-42). This instrument is used to help students identify psychological conditions related to levels of depression, anxiety, and stress.
This assessment serves as a first step for students to become more aware of their own mental well-being. By recognizing their psychological state early on, students are expected to better understand their own needs and take appropriate steps when facing stress in their academic or personal lives.

In addition to the assessment, Fatimatuzzakiyah, S.Psi., M.Psi., also provided guidance on psychological well-being. Students were taught that college life requires not only academic readiness but also the ability to manage emotions, cope with stress, build healthy relationships, and maintain a balance between academic demands and personal needs.
Entering college can present a variety of new challenges for students, especially freshmen. Adapting to the academic environment, study habits, social interactions, and the need to become more independent are all part of the process they must navigate. Therefore, understanding mental health is an important foundation for navigating this journey.
Through this activity, DTI ITS encourages students not to neglect their psychological well-being. It is hoped that awareness of mental health will help students develop healthier habits, recognize their own limits, and have the courage to seek help when facing difficulties.

This event is also part of DTI ITS’s commitment to creating an educational environment that supports students’ holistic development. With their psychological well-being supported, students are expected to engage more effectively in the learning process and develop their full potential during their time at ITS.
