Ir. Muchammad Husni, M.Kom, with DTI lecturers at the Farewell Party event

Surabaya, IT Journalistic — One of the key figures behind the establishment of the Department of Information Technology at ITS, Mr. Ir. Muchammad Husni, M.Kom, has officially entered his retirement. Behind his long journey in the world of education, countless memories, impressions, and valuable values were left behind. Several fellow lecturers shared their stories about this remarkable figure.

Prof. Ir. Supeno Djanali, M.Sc, Ph.D., one of the founders of the Informatics Engineering Department at ITS, recalled his closeness with Mr. Husni, which began during their college years. “I’ve known him since he was still an undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering. One day, I was asked to establish Informatics Engineering, and as soon as he graduated, I immediately invited him to join. Mr. Husni was extraordinary — in almost every activity, such as visits to various cities, we were always together,” Prof. Supeno reminisced.

Prof. Supeno also recalled the moment when Mr. Husni was transferred from Informatics Engineering to Information Technology. “When he was moved to Information Technology, I felt it was the right decision because he was more focused on hardware, and he was very skilled in that field. I hope he can continue to develop his expertise in Information Technology,” he said.

Prof. Supeno added that Mr. Husni was someone he could always rely on. “Every time I contacted him, he would always respond with, ‘Yes, Sir!’ promptly. I truly admired his hardworking spirit. Moreover, he was very obedient and never neglected any task or instruction. That’s what made me highly respect him to this day,” he recalled.

To Mr. Husni, he conveyed a message: “Retirement is nothing — like me, don’t stop at retirement, just keep going. Stay enthusiastic about continuing to develop ITS and Information Technology.”

A similar sentiment was expressed by Dr. tech. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi, M.Sc., Head of the Information Technology Department. To him, Mr. Husni is a consistent and loyal person. “Nowadays, it’s rare to find someone who has worked in the same place for 40 years. He’s not just a lecturer but also one of the founding fathers of the IT Department. Mr. Husni was diligent on campus, the easiest person to meet, and very active in encouraging students to join competitions like Gemastik,” said Mr. Hari.

He added that Mr. Husni’s value of consistency is a legacy they will continue to uphold. “We will carry on what Mr. Husni has pioneered, and for that, we hope he will keep accompanying us for as long as he can. Let’s keep strengthening IT and ITS together,” Mr. Hari firmly stated.

Dr. Rizka Wakhidatus Sholikah, S.Kom, a lecturer in the Information Technology Department and Head of the KCKS Lab, knew Mr. Husni as a caring figure who always guided younger lecturers. “He’s very approachable, often lightening the mood with jokes. Besides that, he’s a disciplined and hardworking individual. His discipline is reflected in his habit of always being on time, whether for meetings or lectures,” she revealed.

Mrs. Rizka also reminisced about her student days when she was in Mr. Husni’s class, where the learning atmosphere was always comfortable and never tense. “To Mr. Husni, happy retirement — although you’re retiring, you’re still teaching here. I hope we can still meet, discuss things, and even play music together. I hope you enjoy this retirement period,” she wished.

The farewell party atmosphere grew livelier with special performances from Mrs. Annisa, Mr. Husni, Mr. Fuad, and students of the IT department, who gave their best on stage

Annisaa Sri Indrawanti, S.Kom, M.Kom, one of the lecturers in the ITS Technology Department, shared her personal impressio of him. “Mr. Husni is my role model. He has so many ideas — from research to community service. He’s also very empathetic towards his colleagues,” she said.

Mrs. Annisa recalled one of her most memorable moments with Mr. Husni in the IT Band — a music community also initiated by Mr. Husni. The regular performances of Koes Plus songs became fond memories for them. “Mr. Husni loves to help others and always instilled the importance of doing good for others,” she added.

“Stay enthusiastic, Sir, in pursuing your hobbies. Wishing you success wherever you are. Now that you’re retired, it’s the perfect time to stay passionate in doing the things you love and activities that may have been postponed due to your busy schedule,” she conveyed.
