CommTECH Camp Insight 2023

Continuing the success of 2012 to 2022 Community and Technological (CommTECH) Camp, ITS International Office is introducing a new innovative program, CommTECH Camp Insight 2023. After covid-19 situation and held our CommTECH in online mode, we are happy to announce that we will hold CommTECH on-site again This program will be conducted on two series : 26 Jan – 6 Feb 2023 and 27 Feb – 10 Mar 2023 . Furthermore, the upcoming CommTECH will be presented as a Project based Learning (PbL) program. Groups will be formed among participants as a platform to help solve real life problems faced by the community. With an increased engagement between participants, facilitators, and the community, a more impactful experience will be achieved. It becomes even more attractive because at the end of the program, all participants will have an opportunity to present their project and ideas which were developed during the course of the program in front of a wider audience.

More about CommTECH Camp:

CommTECH Camp is an opportunity for university students, academics, and professionals from all over the world to learn about community and global issues through a variety of insightful but fun activities. The program includes courses, visitation and discussion with government and non-government agencies, societal engagement, Indonesian language courses, learning traditional music and dances, visit to main tourist destinations, and for sure tasting delicious Indonesian food. The aim of this program is to facilitate an opportunity to better understand ITS’s expertise in technology implementation within the society while visiting, discovering, and experiencing Indonesia’s diverse heritage and culture. It will also open up an opportunity to exchange ideas and develop a mutual goal for the future of our community.

The theme of the program is “Solving Local Problems with Global Knowledge”.  Our organizing committee has been working hard to make the program a truly memorable experience for all participants.

CommTECH Camp Insight offers 4 fascinating courses in 2 different time 

Sub Course A: How to Build Autonomous Ships (26 Jan – 6 Feb 2023)

Interest in autonomous and remotely-controlled ships is growing fast. Enabled by recent developments in sensor technology, connectivity at sea, and analysis and decision support software and algorithms, the first commercial projects are ready for launch in the near future. Autonomous surface vehicles (ASV) are vehicles that operate on the surface of the water (watercraft) without a crew. This topic will focus on what is autonomous surface vehicles, their missions, their unique features, as well as ship design process that include Archimedes theory, Lines Plan, General Arrangement, and ship production process. These basic knowledges will be required when the participants  have an interest for create a ASV.

Sub Course B:  Sociopreneurship in Action (26 Jan – 6 Feb 2023)

This course focuses on creating social venture by students, combining the textbook theories and the
best practice of socio-preneur experience. Social ventures aim to achieve a “double bottom line” with
meaningful social returns, as well as sustainable or competitive financial returns through their
products, services, and other business practices. The objective of the course is to prepare students to
test the viability of new social opportunities and conduct a feasibility study, either for their own idea
or for others

Sub Course C: Cognitive Ergonomics: Fundamentals & Applications (27 Feb – 10 Mar 2023)

Cognitive aspects determine the effectiveness of human interaction with other elements in a system,
particularly in processing input from a display or information. Therefore, cognitive factors need to
be considered in designing work systems to avoid mistakes in carrying out a work procedure. This
course is designed to explain the fundamentals of the human cognitive process from perception to
actions. Furthermore, we will discuss the contemporary cognitive ergonomics applications, such as
human-computer interaction, human reliability, designing an effective interface, cognitive process
evaluation, and UI/UX evaluations.

Sub Course D: Municipal Air Pollution Control from SDGs Perspectives:
How to deal with it (27 Feb – 10 Mar 2023))

This course covers topics based on cases of municipal air problems, essential and its control from SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) perspectives. The big challenge in this area is the complexity of human activities and emission sources, as well as the limited data and technology, and the community’s ability to respond to impacts, especially in developing countries. On the other hand, management efforts must continue to be carried out to reduce negative effects on public health in a sustainable manner.

In this course, participants will learn the essentials of municipal air problems, investigate the sources of air pollutants in their cities with the case study from Surabaya, simple modeling for air pollution dispersion, how to estimate self-contribution to climate change, and what they can do to improve the air quality of their cities from the SDGs perspective. The participants also will learn what should we do to reach “better air quality for our environment and without left no one behind”.

Only active lecturers, non-academic staffs & active bachelor, master & doctoral students from any background are eligible for this program.

The fees for this program is USD 1,600. The fees covers accommodation, local transportation, tuition fee, workshop materials, seminar kits, lunch, trips,  airport pick up & drop off services, and vouchers. The fee excludes personal expenses, roundtrip flight ticket, visa, quarantinne (if needed) travel & health insurance. The participants also need to check the requirement for visa & vaccine to enter Indonesia. we will update in this page about visa.

We offer full scholarship, 50% scholarship (pay only USD 800) & partial scholarship (pay only USD 1,000) for limited participants. Please kindly note  that scholarship only for the fees. You need  still cover the exclude fees such as flight ticket, visa fees, insurance and other personal expenses. Please register early to secure your participation in this program.

The registration will open until 23 December 2022 for sub course A & B and 27 January 2023  for sub course C & D

Indonesian students, International Students who currently study at Indonesia & the previous CommTECH Camp on-site Participants are not allowed to apply to CommTECH Camp Insight 2023

Update Visa:
as per 17 July 2022, here is the update of the visa.

  • ASEAN Countries can enter Indonesia with free visa (visa on arrival)
  • 43 Countries can apply visa of arrival (IDR 500.000,-)
  • For countries not in listed as VoA recepient, you need to apply online visa through ITS system with the fees is IDR 2.000.000,-
  • You need to do booster (3rd doze) vaccination to enter Indonesia without show the PCR result, You need to show PCR test if you only got 2nd doze
