On October 10, 2022, Stanford University and Elsevier Report released the Top 2% Scientists in The World: Single Year Impact 2021 – 2022. The name of one of the ITS academics, Prof. Drs Ec Ir Riyanarto Sarno MSc PhD, returned for the third time as one of the of 200,409 world researchers. The professor who is familiarly called Riyan is also listed as one of the 98 researchers from Indonesia who made it into the Top 2% Scientist in The World. Professor Riyan obtained a c-score of 366 Citations from September 2021 to September 2022 “Regarding my latest research, this year I have published 16 Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) indexed journals,” said Riyan.

Apart from Journals, Professor Riyan also conducted research in the form of making a tool to support AI-based brain surgery called Stereotactic. This tool serves to determine the location of the small anatomy in the brain accurately. “In the brain, there are many small anatomy, for example the ventral intermediate (VIM) nucleus with a size of only about three millimetres, so it requires a tool with high accuracy,” explained Prof. Ryan.

He said that the research he was conducting was not limited to publications but was present to the community so that it could be utilised more broadly by the community. “I do basic, applied, development research to realise the production of innovation results so that they are not limited to writing,” he said.

In the future, Professor Riyan hopes that the younger generation of Indonesia will be willing to be directly involved in research, especially for the sake of increasing human resources which continues to regenerate. He also advised that postgraduate students are the driving force of research at ITS, so ideas and creativity must unite to produce new innovations.
