ITS Campus, GLC News \u2014<\/b> Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) <\/span><\/span>continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting equitable access to quality education through the One-on-One Consultation service at the Academic Writing Center (AWC) ITS for international students receiving the Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (KNB) and Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS). This initiative is a collaboration between\u00a0ITS Global Engagement and Global Language Center (GLC) ITS.<\/span><\/p>

A total of 25 KNB students and 17 TIAS students from various academic levels (undergraduate through doctoral) are participating in the program, which runs during the even semester of the 2025\/2026 academic year. Through the One-on-One Consultation program, these international students receive personalized academic writing guidance for their research proposal writing and publication purposes. Consultations were held daily, both in-person at the GLC ITS and online via Zoom Meeting. This program is one of the ways ITS supports international students in improving the quality of their academic writing.<\/span><\/p>

Unlike editing or translation services, the consultations provided by AWC ITS focus on developing participants\u2019 critical thinking and academic writing skills. In each session, tutors guide students in discussing various aspects of academic writing, such as argument development, manuscript structure, logical flow, and the proper use of academic language.<\/span><\/p>

One of the GLC ITS instructors, Ms. Nafilaturif\u2019ah SHum MHum, stated that the One-on-One Consultation service is crucial for KNB and TIAS students as it helps them understand the structure of scientific writing in a more systematic manner. According to her, students can also develop academic arguments critically and logically through these personalized consultation sessions.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThis service is very beneficial for supporting the writing of theses, dissertations, and scientific articles intended for publication. Even when students do not yet have a fully developed research idea, they can still refine their concepts through discussions with a tutor, thereby gaining a clearer picture of their research,\u201d she explained.<\/span><\/p>

She also added that the One-on-One Consultation system makes the mentoring process more effective because it is conducted directly based on the students\u2019 manuscripts. \u201cStudents can receive more specific feedback on everything from the organization of ideas and the structure of their writing to how to construct a strong academic argument,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>

One of the KNB students from Uganda, Shaban Lubanga, said he gained a lot of new insights during the One-on-One Consultation sessions. According to him, the consultations helped him improve his citation skills as well as better structure his academic language and writing.<\/span><\/p>

He also added that the consultation sessions helped him prepare his research proposal presentation and understand the academic process he would face. \u201cThe questions provided beforehand were very helpful in letting me know what I needed to prepare so that I could be better prepared for the proposal presentation,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>

The availability of the One-on-One Consultation service reflects ITS\u2019s efforts to create an inclusive and supportive academic environment for all students, regardless of their country of origin. Through continuous mentoring, this program also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education, by strengthening the quality of learning and providing inclusive and sustainable academic support.
