ITS Campus, GLC News — For students, having foreign language skills can be a valuable asset to support their academic pursuits while opening up opportunities for personal development. However, access to additional language learning is not always easy for every student. Through the IKOMA EMAS+ Scholarship provided by Ikatan Orang Tua Mahasiswa (IKOMA) at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), undergraduate (S1) and applied bachelor’s (D4) students can get support to take language courses.

Students will receive course fee subsidies at the Global Language Center (GLC) with amounts adjusted based on their admission path. Students with the Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) Scholarship get a 100 percent subsidy, while students admitted through the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) and National Selection Based on Test (SNBT) get a 50 percent subsidy. Meanwhile, students admitted through the Independent pathway get a 25 percent subsidy from the regular course fee of Rp650.000,00.

This support gives students the chance to choose learning that fits their needs. Available courses include General English Conventional both offline and online, General English through the app (Neo Study), as well as several other foreign languages like Japanese, German, Korean, Mandarin, and Arabic.

“The main goal of the IKOMA EMAS+ Scholarship is to provide course fee subsidies for English or other foreign languages, for ITS students. This scholarship is available to all ITS students, subject to the applicable terms and conditions,” said Ms. Anik Amaliyah SPd.

With a quota of more than 800 students each year, the IKOMA EMAS+ Scholarship is designed to expand ITS students’ opportunities to learn languages. Students who have participated in the program can also reapply for the same scholarship program four months after their previous registration date, following the applicable procedures.

This accessibility is one form of support for promoting equal learning opportunities at ITS. Through course fee subsidies, students from various admission paths have the chance to develop their language skills without having to bear the full cost of the courses.

This program also shows that support for education does not only happen through classroom learning. The opportunity to gain additional skills can be part of efforts to build students’ capacity more comprehensively, while also preparing them to meet the ever-evolving academic and professional needs.

Ms. Anik hopes that ITS students can make good use of the opportunities provided by IKOMA ITS. “I hope the IKOMA EMAS+ Scholarship can be fully utilized by ITS students. Mastery of foreign languages is very important in today’s global era. By taking advantage of this scholarship, students can make the most of their learning, not merely to fulfill graduation requirements, but also to further improve their language competence,” she concluded.

The existence of the IKOMA EMAS+ Scholarship aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education, especially in expanding access to education. On the other hand, the subsidy provided based on students’ conditions and admission tracks also supports the achievement of SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities, particularly through efforts to promote equal opportunities and social inclusion.
