AR+DC 2025: International Architecture Conference Raising Voices from the Global South
AR+DC 2025 is an international conference organized by the Department of Architecture, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya, Indonesia. This annual event invites academics, researchers, and professionals in the field of architecture to discuss and share insights on various aspects of architecture and related fields.
Since its inception in 2009, AR+DC has become a significant platform in global architectural discourse. The conference focuses on a variety of topics, including design, theory, history, environmental aspects, housing, settlements, and urban planning. It aims to explore the connections between architecture and various disciplines, as well as contemporary issues faced by global societies, especially in developing countries.
For AR+DC 2025, the main theme is “Voice from the Global South: Architecture from the Margins.” This theme emphasizes how architectural practices in the Global South respond to the dominance of narratives from developed countries, and how architecture can serve as a tool to strengthen local identity, cultural sovereignty, and social change. The conference also highlights the importance of local knowledge in creating sustainable and inclusive architectural solutions.
AR+DC 2025 will be held in a hybrid format, with an in-person session in Surabaya, Indonesia, and an online session allowing global participation. This conference is also part of the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Department of Architecture at ITS, which will include the Final Project Competition (KTA) held prior to the event.
For researchers and practitioners interested in participating, AR+DC 2025 is now accepting a Call for Papers for abstract submissions related to the conference theme. All accepted contributions will play a key role in efforts to create more inclusive and globally relevant architecture.
