Surabaya, FTEIC ITS – The Biomedical Engineering department organized a Mental Health Seminar titled “Seminar Inside Out 2026“ on October 28, 2026 at Multifunction Hall, Tower 2 ITS. The seminar theme is “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay: Learning to Understand Ourselves”. This theme invites students to understand and accept various emotions that arise in the midst of university life. Through this theme, participants are encouraged to recognize and accept their feelings without judging themselves, providing space for rest when needed, and learning to face university processes with greater self-care.

This event is mandatory for Biomedical Engineering students at ITS from class years 2025 and 2026. The activity features two speakers delivering distinct topics. The first speaker is Fatimatuzzakiyah, S.Psi., M.Psi., Clinical Psychologist Medical Center ITS, and dr. Zain Budi Syulthoni, Sp.KJ (Spesialis Kesehatan Jiwa), also known as a Psychiatrist. The event began with completing a Psychological Screening form led by the team from Medical Center ITS, followed by the first session presentation.

The first session featured Fatimatuzzakiyah, S.Psi., M.Psi., who delivered the topic “Nggak Harus Kuat Terus: Merawat Diri di Tengah Dunia Perkuliahan”. In this session, the speaker aimed to remind participants that they do not always need to be strong, productive, and capable of handling everything alone. Participants were invited to recognize personal boundaries, understand emotional needs, and apply healthy forms self-care without feeling guilty. The session also emphasized that caring for oneself does not mean giving up but rather allowing space to rest so one can move forward more effectively again. At the end of the event, a QnA session was held; participants were invited to ask questions directly or submit them via a link where their identities remain anonymous. This measure ensures participants feel free and safe to ask the speaker without revealing personal information.

Subsequently, the second session presented by Dr. Zain Budi Syulthoni, Sp.KJ with the topic “Bangkit di Tengah Luka: Menemukan Harapan untuk Melangkah”. This session invites students to understand and accept difficult experiences they have faced, while discovering hope and strength to move forward again. Participants were encouraged to recognize their feelings, embrace the process, and realize that every wound does not need to be an ending but can become part of a journey for growth. At the end of this session as well, a QnA was conducted allowing participants to ask questions directly or fill out a link with anonymity preserved.

The session concluded with a Special Performance by Genomic Groove, a band composed of Biomedical Engineering students from class year 2023. Genomic Groove performed calming songs that offer hope and encouragement to Biomedical Engineering students as they navigate college life. (Humas – Ny)
