FTEIC ITS received a visit from three ITS 5S+S assessors during a genba activity to review the implementation of work culture within the faculty. This year’s assessment focused on the FTEIC Lobby and the Administrative Service Room, while also highlighting various digital innovations developed by the FTEIC Teams to support a more organized, safe, and comfortable work environment.

Surabaya, FTEIC ITS – The atmosphere at the Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FTEIC), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), was busier than usual on Monday (10/12). Three ITS 5S+S assessors came to see firsthand how work culture is implemented within the faculty, from the arrangement of spaces to the various innovations developed by the FTEIC team.
The three assessors were Sendy P. Putra as team leader, along with Galih Adi Rustanto and Lukman Hakim. The visit was part of a genba activity, which is a direct inspection of work areas to observe actual conditions, evaluate the implementation of standards, and identify areas that can still be improved.
The ITS 5S+S work culture comprises six principles, namely Sisih (Sort), Susun (Set in Order), Sapu (Sweep), Standar (Standardize), Sinambung (Sustain), and Safety. These six principles serve as guidelines for creating a clean, organized, safe, and comfortable work environment, while also supporting improved service quality across ITS.
In the 2026 assessment, FTEIC entered two areas: the FTEIC Lobby and the Faculty Administrative Service Room. Both areas received particular attention because they are directly related to daily work activities and to services for students, lecturers, educational staff, and faculty guests.
The preparation and implementation of the 5S+S program at FTEIC were coordinated by Ismanu as team leader. The team, named FTEIC Teams, involves educational staff and faculty leadership. The educational staff members are Rio Tria Hardhitya, Wicahyo Saputro, and Dian Ernawati. Meanwhile, the leadership is represented by FTEIC Dean Prof. Diana Purwitasari, FTEIC Vice Dean Dimas Anton Asfani, Ph.D., and FTEIC Head of Administration Agus Dwi Purwolastono.
During the visit, the assessors gave a fairly positive evaluation of the efforts made by the FTEIC Teams. The improvements on display showed the team members’ involvement in building more orderly and organized work habits. The assessors’ feedback was also an important part of identifying opportunities for further refinement.
Interestingly, the implementation of 5S+S at FTEIC is not limited to the physical arrangement of rooms. The team also introduced several simple innovations that support more practical management of the work environment. One of them is a digital 5S+S communication board that makes it easier to share information and document activities.
In addition, a number of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been made accessible by scanning a barcode. This makes it easier for users to obtain work procedure information without having to search for documents manually. The FTEIC Teams also followed up on feedback from the previous year’s assessors as part of their ongoing improvement efforts.
For FTEIC, implementing 5S+S is more than an activity to prepare for assessments. It is an opportunity to build consistent work habits, increase care for the environment, and provide ever-better service. The digital innovations introduced are expected to help sustain the program while also simplifying the faculty’s administrative tasks.
This year’s assessor visit gave the FTEIC Teams an opportunity to look back on what they have achieved while also gaining input for further development. Leadership support and the involvement of educational staff are key to ensuring that the principles of Sisih, Susun, Sapu, Standar, Sinambung, and Safety are truly applied in daily activities.
Through this activity, FTEIC ITS continues to strive to make the 5S+S work culture part of everyday life, not only during assessments. With an increasingly organized work environment and the support of digital innovation, the faculty is expected to strengthen the quality of its administrative governance and its services to the entire ITS academic community.(humas-electics)
