Surabaya, FTEIC ITS – The Biomedical Engineering Annual Contest, or commonly abbreviated as BEACON, is an annual contest organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering. BEACON has two events, namely BEPRO and BENMAX. On October 3, 2026, the Grand Final of BEPRO 2026 was held at Tower 2, ITS.

Biomedical Engineering Prime Contest or commonly abbreviated as BEPRO is an olympiad for high school students to develop analytical and innovative capabilities through the application of multidisciplinary fields. Before reaching the Grand Final stage, finalists have first passed the Preliminary Round and Semi-Final stages. The teams that reached the Grand Final round of BEPRO include: Testing Doa Mama, Twin Power, Victoria a Deo, TUKANG BUBUR NAIK HAJI, and BISMILLAH MENANG. These five teams are from schools outside Surabaya. The first place winner of BEPRO will receive a Free Pass in Biomedical Engineering ITS.

In the Grand Final round, the evaluation is divided into two, namely assessment from Final Project presentation and Cosmic Conquest, it was held at the beginning of the event on the first floor, Tower 2. Participants presented their Final Project, which had been worked on for about two weeks and accompanied by a Mentor who is also a student from the Department of Biomedical Engineering itself. Mentoring activities were conducted three times, with details being twice online and once offline. The BEPRO judges are lecturers from the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Judges evaluate finalist presentations based on aspects such as Innovation and Device Accuracy, Ease of Use Application/Interface, and Mastery of Material during Presentation.

After the Final Project presentation was conducted, finalists displayed their Final Project at the Exhibition. At the Exhibition, each team could introduce their Final Project tool directly to visitors. Visitors were also able to vote based on whether they liked a finalist’s Final Project. The team with the most votes will receive the Final Project Favorite award. Before that, on BEACON’s Instagram account (@beacon_its), posters of each finalist’s Final Project were uploaded. The poster with the most likes will receive the Favorite Poster award.

The Grand Final Round was then continued with the execution of Cosmic Conquest. Cosmic Conquest was held for 90 minutes on the eighth floor, Tower 2. Herein, finalists can collect points by solving questions from various categories. Each category represents each subject: COMET – Mathematics, MOON – Physics, SUN – Anatomy Physiology & Chemistry, STAR – Logic Circuitry and Basic Programming. In every category, there are ten levels of questions with different point values. The higher the level of the question, the more points obtained if successfully answered.

During the Cosmic Conquest execution, five finalists were placed in five different classes. Finalists can see all question categories and levels depicted as cards on televisions available in each classroom. If answered correctly, the question is marked accordingly. Participants are required to contact the organizers when wishing to answer a question. During the first 60 minutes, finalists could view live score of other teams. Spectators were also able to watch the Cosmic Conquest and finalist live score at the lower floor. At minute 70, finalists were given a black envelope containing the Black Hole question. This question is a combination of two subjects and provides the highest points if successfully answered.
