To provide insight for FTEIC students regarding cross-field careers, the student body of FTEIC invited Ir. Lies Hartono, commonly known as Cak Lontong, to speak at ELECTRICS Company Talk as an alumni from Electrical Engineering.

Surabaya, FTEIC ITS – ELECTICS Company Talk was held on September 19, 2026, at the ITS Robotics Building. The event took place offline and welcomed around 1,100 FTEIC students. In the second session, the activity featured Lies Hartono, known as Cak Lontong, a comedian and entertainer who is also an alumni of Electrical Engineering. His presence offered a different perspective on how one’s career journey can develop outside the field studied during their undergraduate studies.
Cak Lontong was selected as the speaker due to his compelling and non-linear career path relative to his educational background. As an Electrical Engineering alumnus who later pursued a career in entertainment, he illustrated that graduates from engineering programs have opportunities to develop their careers across various fields.
The material presented focused not only on professional experiences but also on personal life and the diverse experiences that shaped the speaker’s career. Cak Lontong demonstrated that an educational background is never a boundary in determining one’s career direction. Experience, opportunities, and courage to try new fields can be vital parts of someone’s journey until they discover areas aligned with their potential.
One key insight shared was the importance for students not to feel limited by their major when thinking about their future. Besides academic skills, students also need to develop adaptability and communication abilities, dare to try new things, and continuously cultivate their potential. Experiences from different fields can serve as preparation for building a career in the future.
This message is relevant for students still undergoing their undergraduate studies. College years can be utilized to broaden experiences, study various subjects, and seize opportunities beyond one’s field of study. By courageously exploring new things, students can discover potential and possibilities that might not have been previously considered.

The session concluded with a meet and greet between Cak Lontong and FTEIC students. This interaction served as a closing moment, giving students the opportunity to interact more closely with the speaker.
Through ELECTICS Company Talk Session 2, participants not only gained insight into the professional world but also understood that every individual’s career journey can have a different direction. Cak Lontong’s experience serves as an example showing that students can continue to explore their capabilities and interests while remaining open to various opportunities arising along the path toward the professional world.
