Surabaya, ELECTICS ITS – Three students from the Department of Information Systems, FT-EIC ITS, class of 2023, achieved an outstanding accomplishment by participating in the UI/UX Find IT competition organized by the Department of Information Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The team, named Cartenz, consists of Zaskia Muazatun Mahmud who focused on video editing and presentation design, Binar Faisha Wijdan who worked on application design and development, and Nabila Rahadatul Aisy K. who prepared the proposal and coordinated the team’s work.

The name Cartenz was inspired by Carstensz Pyramid, the highest peak in Indonesia, symbolizing their determination to reach the highest achievement. This philosophy reflects the team’s spirit to present innovative work while gaining valuable experience in the field of user interface and user experience design.

The Find IT UGM competition is well-known as one of the prestigious events in UI/UX, with a multi-stage selection system starting from abstract submission, research proposals, to prototype presentations directly before the jury in Yogyakarta. Carrying the theme “Back to Basic,” the competition encouraged participants to return to the fundamental principles of design that remain effective and relevant today.

In this competition, Team Cartenz developed Scoop, an innovative platform designed to help high school students across Indonesia gain easier and more directed access to college scholarships. The application features a Personalize Test that maps user characteristics, a recommendation system for relevant scholarships, and a virtual assistant named Scoopies that guides users through the registration process via the Dreampad feature. To ensure users don’t miss important steps, Scoop also presents information in the form of flashcards and an interactive reminder system.

During preparation, the team faced challenges in time management and technical limitations. However, through effective communication, clear role distribution, and guidance from their supervisor, Mr. Nisfu Asrul Sani, S.Kom., M.Sc., they managed to overcome these obstacles and produce a solid work.

The competition experience also left special memories. One of them was when the judges initially thought they were still high school students because of their presentation concept that used school uniforms, which matched the app’s target users. Another unforgettable moment was the long nights they spent finalizing the proposal and presentation, proving the team’s dedication to their project.

For Cartenz, victory was not the only goal.

“Competition is not just about winning, but about the learning process, teamwork, and experiences that shape us for the future,” they shared as a message to other ITS Information Systems students.
